Love, War, and Politics: The Counterculture at West Georgia, 1954-1973 opened October 2017 and will close in May 2018. I coordinated the exhibit as co-director of the Center of the Public History and director of the University History Project, a primary initiative of the Center. Hannah Givens was primary researcher and curator of the exhibit, along with Kaitlin Costley and Tracy Phelps. Christian Hill designed the panels. All are (or were) graduate students in the Public History program at UWG and graduate research assistants at the Center for Public History. The exhibit argues that, though small, the countercultural presence at West Georgia College was transformative–resulting in new, relaxed policies for students; a changing racial makeup of the student body; and in new organizations that allowed students to define their own experience.
